Choosing the right table linens for Christmas

Overflowing with tasty delicacies, visually scintillating and truly joyous: the undisputed star of Christmas is the dining table, which is why choosing the right tablecloth and table linens when celebrating the festive season is crucial.

Choosing the most suitable colour depends on the atmosphere you want to create

If you appreciate elegance, the best idea is a white tablecloth in damask or linen


The classic festive tablecloth colours are red, white, green, gold and silver.

White evokes the purity of snow, green the natural elements associated with Christmas (the tree, moss, mistletoe), while red and gold need no introduction as they really are the quintessential festive shades.

Choosing the most suitable colour depends on the atmosphere you want to create.

If you appreciate elegance, the best idea is a white tablecloth in damask or linen, with napkins and other details in gold or silver.

You can choose an embroidered or plain version, or even opt for sparkling decorations on the surface.

If you are looking for a solution which is at once creative and stylish, you can combine white with purple elements (see photo, above right).
For a more modern and joyful atmosphere, a red table cloth is perfect, perhaps combined with a centrepiece in shades of green.
In this case white plates are a must, in order to create a beautiful contrast.
As napkins are particularly visible, they should be a different shade from the tablecloth.
Gold and silver are the best solutions because they work well with any of the colours: red, white or green.
When laying them on the table, you can roll them up and tie them with a ribbon, arrange them in triangles or slip them into glasses.
